iPod is still number one

Unless you have been in another universe hiding under a really big rock, you have known Apple was leading the market for digital music players. I have always known this but I never really knew how far behind the competition was. According to the NPD Group, Apple currently leads the market at 76.5%. Now here is the shocker, SanDisk follows way behind at 9.6%. Creative at 4.3%, Samsung takes 2.5% and Sony at 1.9%.

It really makes you wonder why the other companies are even trying anymore. Sony has to be the one that tries the hardest, yet they control the least of the market. You would think someone at Sony would say ok we need to stop wasting money on these new devices that don't sell.

With stats like these, Apple will be sitting pretty for along time to come. With the combination of iPod+iTunes and the ease of use of both (looking good and everyone else having one helps too), its no wonder Apple is on top.
